Our Lumenis PiQo4 laser uses ultra-short pulses of four different wavelengths of light energy (picosecond and nanosecond pulses) to shatter pigment in the skin. The energy creates photoacoustic pulses (converting light into sound waves) that shatter pigment into tiny particles. Your body then naturally clears those particles through the lymphatic system. It has one of the largest spot sizes among lasers in this class, so treatments are quick and easy.
The PiQo4 laser is highly versatile. It can help with sun damage, brown spots, melasma, hyperpigmentation, freckles, fine lines, tattoo removal (including multicolored tattoos), and overall skin rejuvenation by boosting collagen and elastin production across all skin types, with no surgery or downtime.
What To Expect
Patients can expect a quick snap or tingling with each pulse. The pulses are often described as producing less heat than traditional lasers. There is minimal to no downtime, with mild redness lasting a few hours after treatment. Some dark spots may temporarily darken before fading. 3-6 sessions are recommended, though tattoo removal may require more. Avoid sun exposure for two weeks before and after each treatment.
Pre-Procedure Guidelines
To prepare for PiQo4 treatments, patients should:
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning for two weeks before and after treatment
- Follow all pre-treatment instructions provided during consultation
- Maintain good skin health leading up to the procedure
- Do not apply any makeup or sunblock to the treatment area(s) on the day of your procedure
- Digital photos, consent, and cleansing of the injection areas will be performed
- This is a laser, so eye protection is required for patients and staff
- Treatments take 5 to 10 minutes
- Cold air blowers may be employed for comfort
What To Expect And After Care
There is minimal social downtime with PiQo4 treatments. The treated areas may feel warm that night, and treated pigment can be pink and puffy for a day.
Patients should:
- Keep exposed skin clean and well-moisturized per instructions
- Avoid sun exposure and use sun protection
- Do not rub or massage treated areas if they are sensitive
- Follow all post-procedure care instructions carefully.
- If you are using Redvive Red/NIR light therapy, you can restart immediately
Recovery Timeline
- Return to normal activity and gym: the next day
- Avoid sun and heated environments for several weeks
- Back in tinted SPF or makeup immediately
- Skin can be slightly pink that day, and puffy for several days after aggressive tattoo treatments. Plan your business and social schedule accordingly
- Results are optimized with each additional treatment performed 6 weeks or more apart, allowing your body time to expel or absorb shattered pigment fragments
