What to Expect With Bellafill
Treatment is performed in the office and typically takes less than an hour. You will have pre-treatment digital photos for your records, review, and sign consent and facial cleansing prior to injection.
You may experience mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site. After treatment:
- If you are allergic to beef or cow milk, a small skin test will be performed to be sure that you will not have an allergic response to Bellafill®
- Avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive heat for 24–48 hours
- Do not massage or manipulate the treated area unless instructed
- Sleep with your head elevated the first night if you have face injections
- Bellafill® is not used under the thin skin of the eyes or in the lips to decrease the risk of nodule formation in areas that move a lot.
Because Bellafill® is long-lasting and not dissolvable, following aftercare instructions and provider guidance is especially important.
Pre-Procedure Guidelines
To prepare for Bellafill® injection, patients should:
- Avoid sun exposure and tanning prior to treatment
- Discontinue blood thinners 3 to 10 days prior to injections
- Follow all pre-treatment instructions provided during consultation
- Maintain good skin health leading up to the procedure
- Do not apply any makeup or sunblock to the treatment area on the day of your procedure
What To Expect And After Care
Recovery from Bellafill® injections varies depending on the treatments performed.
After the procedure:
- It is normal to have some swelling, bruising and tenderness from injections
- Treated areas may feel tight or sensitive
- Bruising may not appear at the surface until several days after injection, but are generally resolved by two weeks
Patients should:
- Keep the skin clean and well-moisturized per instructions
- Avoid sun exposure and use sun protection
- Follow all post-procedure care instructions carefully.
- If you are using Redvive Red/NIR light therapy, you can restart immediately
Recovery Timeline
- Initial healing: 1-2 days
- Back in tinted SPF or makeup the next day
- Bruising, if any, resolves in 1-2 weeks
- Return to normal activity: next day
