What is Dermaplaning/Dermablading? When skin rejuvenation treatments, such as facials and microdermabrasion, are not helping you attain the outcome you desire, but you aren't interested in more invasive procedures, you may be a candidate for dermaplaning. Dermaplaning is an innovative skin and facial treatment that smoothes the skin by stripping away dead skin cells and "peach fuzz" facial hair for a radiant, youthful look. Sometimes called dermablading, this treatment is completed with a careful scraping technique by a razor or facial tool. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Edward M. Zimmerman is proud to offer dermaplaning treatments at Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas in Las Vegas, NV. Dermaplaning is popular these days because it is minimally invasive and able to provide smoother, younger-looking skin successfully.
"I recently visited for fillers on my cheekbone and jawline (Radiesse Plus), as well as some wrinkle relaxer (Xeomin). The process took a little longer than I had expected but the injector was well versed in her practice and very gentle with me. I am very happy with the results. There was a little bruising which is normal with deeper fillers, but from day 1 it was a great improvement. Never thought that just a couple syringes (ok ok like 4 Radiesse, 1 Xeomin) could make such a difference in how I see myself and how others do as well. Highly recommend."- M.J. / Google / Jun 22, 2019

Ideal Candidates for DERMAPLANING
Dermablading and dermaplaning are safe and effective solutions for many skin types. Women and men with severe acne may not be suited for this procedure. Ideal candidates for this procedure:
- Are searching for something other than microdermabrasion and chemical peels
- Do not have rosacea
- Have an abundance of fine facial hair
- Do not have skin that is highly sensitive
- Have uneven skin tone
DERMAPLANING Procedure Technique
Dermaplaning procedures are typically completed on an outpatient basis in our office. Once you are seated comfortably in our treatment room, your skin will be cleaned and the dermaplaning will begin with a gentle scraping of the skin's surface with a facial blade. The technician will skim the treatment area repeatedly until the face has been entirely treated. The amount of time needed will depend upon whether a small portion or the full face will be treated. At a consultation beforehand, Dr. Z will explain the process of the dermaplaning procedure to you.
What to Expect in DERMAPLANING
Following your dermaplaning treatment, you can expect your face to be a tad red. This is a normal reaction that will fade in the coming days. It's not uncommon for some peeling to occur as the skin heals. However, it's important not to scratch the skin so it can heal on its own. You will need to avoid prolonged sun exposure as the face will be sensitive in the days and weeks following your procedure. You can expect results soon after, as dermaplaning produces smoother, softer skin right away. To help you care for your rejuvenated skin, our team will outline an improved skin care regimen with you, including the highly recommended, daily application of sunscreen.
DERMAPLANING Frequently Asked Questions
How much does dermaplaning cost?
The cost of your dermaplaning treatment will depend on facility fees, your unique treatment plan, the number of sessions needed to attain your goals, and if any other skin care procedure is combined. Once your custom dermal plan is developed, Dr. Z can estimate your costs. Our office frequently offers specials and monthly promos so be sure to ask about this during your consult. In addition, we provide discounts when you purchase multiple treatments.
Does it hurt?
No. Typically, most patients do not experience any pain or discomfort during a dermaplaning treatment as this is a noninvasive procedure that focuses on the very top layer of skin. The purpose of the treatment is to gently scrape away old or damaged skin cells and "peach fuzz" hair for smoother, healthier skin. The results will provide a refreshed and rejuvenated appearance.
Why is dermaplaning good for the skin?
If you have an excess amount of "peach fuzz" or have tired-looking skin, then this is a great treatment option as it is simple, affordable, noninvasive, and does not require any downtime, like a chemical peel. Dermaplaning removes old damaged skin and vellus hair for a gorgeous profile. This process also helps to remove trapped dirt and bacteria, in addition to promoting collagen and elastin fibers for a glowing complexion.
Will my hair grow back thicker?
No. Contrary to the popular myth that hair will grow back thicker when shaved, dermaplaning does not interfere in the natural hair production process.
How often should I get dermaplaning?
We usually recommend that you receive a dermaplaning treatment once a month or every 4 – 6 weeks to maintain optimal results. Talk to your aesthetician to determine when they think it's best for you to return for follow-up treatments.
