ABOUT IPL
When you are concerned about how your complexion appears because of sun damage, fine lines, or dark spots, Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas can perform a skin examination at our Las Vegas, NV office to determine if you'll benefit from Intense Pulsed Light therapy. A photofacial with IPL is a rejuvenating skin treatment for adult women and men with hyperpigmentation or wrinkle concerns on their neck and face. A photofacial may be a noninvasive process; however, it can be highly effective and create impressive outcomes. Cosmetic surgeon Dr. Edward M. Zimmerman uses intense pulses of light energy that raise the temperature of the skin cells to start the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. In time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer spots.

IDEAL CANDIDATES FOR IPL
A photofacial reaches the deeper layers of your skin to correct several complexion problems (particularly brown lesions and sun spots) with minimal or no recovery time. The best candidates for IPL treatments at Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas will have many issues with their complexion, such as rosacea, sun damage, brown spots (hyperpigmentation), rough texture, wrinkles, visible pores, redness, melasma, sun and age spots, vascular lesions, or dilated capillaries. Dr. Z will examine your complexion to determine if you will benefit from a photofacial during your initial consultation.
IPL PROCEDURE TECHNIQUE
An IPL photofacial is completed at our Las Vegas, NV office in around 20 – 30 minutes in one of our treatment rooms if no other treatments are performed. To prepare for the IPL facial, your technician will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with special shields. The IPL photofacial is performed using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting laser energy pulses. While many patients may have mild discomfort throughout the IPL photofacial, it's usually bearable, given the fast treatment time.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN IPL
There usually is no recovery time needed with an IPL photofacial treatment, but you may leave our office with your complexion a little red and swollen. This will subside naturally in several hours — it may be masked with cosmetics if you prefer. Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas suggests you apply a cream on the treated skin to minimize any irritation and promote healing. It may also help to use an over-the-counter anti-inflammatory medicine to help decrease swelling. Over the next 2 – 5 days, the blemishes under the skin will rise to the surface layers and then start to flake away. It is necessary to protect your skin with sunscreen as often as possible after an IPL photofacial treatment and to not pick at the flaking skin. While you will have some improvements after your first treatment, your complexion will attain ideal results with multiple IPL photofacial treatments. Dr. Z suggests most patients get 3 – 6 sessions done every four weeks at Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas.
IPL FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does IPL cost?
Every patient case is unique, which means the cost of IPL will be dependent on your unique condition. Aesthetic Revolution Las Vegas offers monthly specials and accepts many forms of payment. During your initial visit, we can help estimate your cost and determine the number of treatments needed for optimal results.
How quick are the results from IPL?
Improvements can be seen after each treatment, but the best results can be seen a month after a full series of treatments is completed. It’s common for patients to respond differently to each treatment session. Patients will see a gradual improvement of redness, blotchiness, sun spots, and age spots over time.
What are the possible side effects of IPL?
Most patients experience mild side effects, like temporary swelling, redness, crusting, bruising, or superficial blisters. These subside within a day or two after the procedure. Patients will not be sun sensitive, but they should keep in mind that excessive sun exposure will affect the results of the procedure. Patients should always wear sunscreen to protect their skin and to decrease the appearance of redness, brown spots, wrinkles and skin cancer.
Do I need to prep for IPL?
Patients about to undergo an IPL laser treatment are usually asked to avoid self-tanners and excessive sun for 2 – 4 weeks prior to the procedure. You should discontinue the use of minocycline, tetracycline, doxycycline or Retin-A/Renova several days before each treatment and may be asked to take aspirin or ibuprofen a week before the procedure to help prevent bruising. You should also protect the treated areas with sunscreen between sessions.
Why so many sessions?
A full series of IPL photorejuvenation sessions are required in order to provide gradual, natural-looking improvement with little to no risk of the patient’s safety. Multiple sessions also allow for longer-lasting results.
