Most ear repairs can be performed onsite in our state-of-the-art facility. Whether you are looking to repair a small or large tear in your earlobe, Dr. Z and our talented team can help you attain natural-looking results. If you are uncertain that you need a surgeon to correct your damaged earlobe, Dr. Z can examine your condition and determine what procedure is right for you.
EARLOBE REPAIR SURGICAL TECHNIQUE
Earlobe repair surgery will be safely performed under local anesthesia to numb the repair site. The majority of earlobe tears can be corrected with sutures, closing up the area and mending the problem. If the holes are much larger or more complicated, Dr. Z will discuss different surgical options to recreate your earlobe. You may also need both earlobes to be altered during treatment to ensure they look symmetrical and balanced. Once the ears are surgically corrected, the incisions are closed with sutures and bandaged so they can remain safeguarded for healing.
WHAT TO EXPECT IN EARLOBE REPAIR
After the earlobe treatment is complete and it is safe to leave our office, you will be advised to rest and recover at home. Dr. Z or a member of our team will give you detailed aftercare instructions to follow on your own. It is important to not touch or scratch the ears. Avoid laying on your ears; instead, you should be sleeping in an upright position for the first several days. Dr. Z asks to see his ear surgery patients within the first week. During this time, Dr. Z will remove the bandages and review the progress of the ears. Your results will continue to look better as the ears heal.
EARLOBE REPAIR FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does ear surgery cost?
The popularity of oversized and heavy earrings, and ear gauges has made earlobe repair a popular surgery at our office. If you are interested in having an earlobe repair, schedule a consultation with Dr. Z. He will examine the damage and discuss what could be done to reshape your earlobes. Once Dr. Z has listened to your concerns and goals, he can create your surgical plan and estimate costs. In order for you to focus on getting the results you need, instead of costs, we accept many payment methods for your convenience.
My child had an ear trauma. Can my child have surgery to fix the appearance of the ear?
Normally, children about 5 – 6 years of age are ideal candidates for ear surgery because the ears are generally developed by this age. Furthermore, the cartilage and tissue will still be soft, making it easy to shape. This age is also appropriate since it is right before the start of school or early in their education so they can avoid uneasy situations or insecurities in school.
Will the results of ear surgery last?
Usually, the ears mature faster than other parts of the face and body, which is why this type of treatment can be carried out on younger patients with long-lasting results. Dr. Z will evaluate the ears and then discuss realistic expectations as to how long the results should last. Even as the face and body can change due to age and gravity, the effects on the ears will most likely be minimal. If there are drastic changes to the ears due to an additional injury, a second otoplasty plastic surgery might be performed.
Do I need to have both ears done or just one?
Most disfigurements, including earlobes that are too big, occur in both ears, so both will need to be addressed. During the surgery, Dr. Z will shape both earlobes so they are as equal as possible. However, if only one ear needs to be changed, the size and shape will be altered to match the other ear. When developing your treatment plan, Dr. Z will let you know whether or not one or both ears will be addressed.
